The Life and Death of Leopold Butters Fitzroy Empty The Life and Death of Leopold Butters Fitzroy

Post by James Mon Jun 23, 2014 7:16 pm

The impact of a Sire disowning his Childe has more weight the older the Vampire in question. Starting Leopold at around 50-100 years dead. What you should do is think about what it was like growing up as a human during these times, and what kind of impact that is going to have on your personality. We're looking at teenage years being around the great depression, or the 60's.

This will have an impact on your stats as well, but there are some auxiliary questions as well to help develop your character:
    • How did you spend your early childhood? What is your clearest childhood memory?
    • Did you have a hometown,or was your family constantly on the move?
    • Did any of your childhood friendships last to adulthood? Did anyone miss you?
    • Were you a decent person, or were you an asshole? Were you popular?
    • How did you earn a living?
    • What was your first brush with the supernatural? Did you believe in the occult before your Embrace? As a Human, what frightened you most?
    • How did your sire catch you?
    • Did the Hunger tear at you? Did it frighten you?
    • Are you grateful to your sire? Angry for what he did to you?
    • What do you know of your sire? Was he abusive, arrogant, cryptic. or open? Why do you think he chose you?
    • How long did your apprenticeship with your sire last?
    • Do you judge other vampires in general by your opinion of your sire?
    • Where do you hide during the day? Do you have a permanent home at all? Do you stay in the place you inhabited in your mortal life? Do you hide in an abandoned building? The sewers? Do you have anyone to protect you during the day?
    • Do you pretend to be still alive?
    • Do you still watch over relatives from afar?
    • Whom do you feed upon, and where? Do you have a territory that you consider exclusively yours? Is your favorite hunting ground used by others?
    • Do you ever kill when you feed?
    What motivates you?
    • Do you seek revenge on any enemies?
    • Do you long to return to your mortal life?
    • Do you have ambitions in Kindred society?
    • If you could achieve anything in the world, what would it be?

Answer as many or as few of those as you have time for.

The Life and Death of Leopold Butters Fitzroy Empty Re: The Life and Death of Leopold Butters Fitzroy

"It's Leopold Basil Fitzroy. Not 'Butters.' Can't you get it right?"

    ---

    1. How did you spend your early childhood? What is your clearest childhood memory?
Leo was born in 1920 and grew up during the Great Depression. His family, both parents and an older sister, was fairly wealthy, though a fair chunk of that was in non-tangible assets that were lost in the Stock Market crash of 1929. His family had plenty of tangibles, but had to sell off a lot of them, fire the help, and move to a much smaller house. They weren’t poor by any means, but for 9 year old Leopold, being told “no” to things for the first time was new. Many of his friends were in similar or worse situations, and seeing them struggle as well was a shock.

    2. Did you have a hometown, or was your family constantly moving?
Leopold grew up in Manhattan, New York. He was 2nd generation, his family emigrated from Eastern Europe during the large immigrant entry to the US around the turn of the century.

    3. Did any of your childhood friendships last to adulthood? Did anyone miss you?
A couple friendships lasted, though after going through the Embrace Leopold had to sever those connections. His friends miss him, but are angry because as far as they know, Leopold simply ran off, without telling anyone where he went. Rumor has it that he left to go be with some lady. After a couple decades his friends stopped caring, having moved on with their lives.

    4. Were you a decent person, or were you an asshole? Were you popular?
Leopold was a nice guy within his class, very outgoing with a leader personality, up until the Great Depression. He was raised to believe the poor were lesser and filthy, as was the upper-class mindset. During the Depression the “poor are filthy” mindset sort of went away, or at least Leopold learned to pity those with less instead of being disgusted by them.
As a vampire Leopold does not feed on the poor or obviously homeless because of a latent fear of returning to a poorer lifestyle. His family’s financial loss during the Great Depression had a significant impact on him in that regard.

    5. How did you earn a living?
Leopold inherited a fair share of money from his parents. When that ran dry he sold some old possessions from his mortal life to make some money since most things were only lightly used. During his mortal life, in his teenage years, he attended school at day, enjoying art classes, and worked in the garment district of New York at night. Some of his friends left home to ride trains and work where they could find it. After finishing high school, Leopold continued to work in the garment district, mostly among women. It was odd for a boy of his class and gender to work there, but he rather liked working with fabric, and the security of pay was nice. People would always need clothes.

    6. What was your first brush with the supernatural? Did you believe in the occult before you Embrace? As a Human, what frightened you the most?
His Embrace was the first time he was aware of the supernatural. He didn’t believe in anything else beforehand as it had never come up, really. Occasionally a friend would mention that an abandoned house or area was haunted, but Leopold never really believed in them beyond childhood or the individual incident.

    7. How did your sire catch you?
Coming home from work late one night, headed back to his apartment. She was very pretty and seemed very interested in him. As a young man, who would refuse?

    8. Did the Hunger tear at you? Did it frighten you?
Yes and yes. Leopold ran rapid and fed quite a bit at first, but was terrified of it at the same time. He just knew he had to feed to keep going, and that he didn’t want to stop.

    9. Are you grateful to your sire? Was he abusive, arrogant, cryptic, or open? Why do you think she chose you?
Leopold resented his sire at first, especially for tricking him, but that was before he really understood what being a vampire meant. During his years as a neonate his opinion changed, though he wasn’t too fond of the Camarilla structure. He was used to being the big fish, and all of a sudden he was at the bottom of the totem pole. His sire was fairly open about vampire unlife and had hoped that Leopold’s innate charisma and ability to whoo with words would help pull strings to get her (the sire) further up the Ivory Tower.

    10. How long did your apprenticeship with your sire last?
Leopold’s neonate status lasted about 30 years, until the mid-late 1970s (started in the mid 1940s).

    11. Do you judge other vampires in general by your opinion of your sire?
Not at all. Leopold has met too many vampires who were unlike their own sire, and believes that although they have sway over how some Childers act, not everyone does. The fact that Leopold broke away from his sire’s viewpoints and agenda only confirms that you should judge people by their own actions, not those of their higher ups.

    12. Where do you hide during the day? Do you have a permanent home at all? Do you stay in the place you inhabited in your mortal life? Do you hide in an abandoned building? The sewers? Do you have anyone to protect you during the day?
Leopold owns a moderately nice condo. Not too expensive, but more than most could afford. This is where he sleeps during the day, in a room where the windows have been boarded up and covered with heavy drapes. No one protects him during the day, but he is the only one with the set of keys used to unlock the thick bolts used to keep the door shut.
When prey comes to visit and they ask about, he just tells them he’s “paranoid of burglars.” That is if they even notice.

    13. Do you pretend to still be alive?
Sometimes. During parties with mortals for sure, as that’s usually how Leopold lures them in. Or he does the extreme opposite and tells them that he is a vampire and the idea is usually so ridiculous to them that they don’t truly believe him.

    14. Do you still watch over relatives from afar?
Not really. His parents are dead and he moved away from New York after his apprenticeship with his sire. He has an older sister who has grandchildren, but he doesn't know them and prefers not to think about her anymore.

    15. Whom do you feed upon, and where? Do you have a territory that you consider exclusively yours? Is your favorite hunting group used by others?
Leopold feeds on anyone who seems interested in him and looks decent enough. He much less picky when he’s hungry, but usually he has the option to be picky; he usually chooses the higher class looking or more stubborn mortals. People who pose a challenge, as they are convince he isn’t their “type” when he approaches, are amongst his favorite.

    16. Do you ever kill when you feed?
Generally, no. Unless someone really upset Leopold earlier in the evening, he usually tries to make the experience pleasurable for the victim because it makes it easier to lure them in the next time.

    17. What motivates you?
Pleasure, fashion, attention, the chase, and wealth, generally. Leopold is rather shallow when it comes to most things, though will go out of his way to knock down anyone who gets in his way. And if slighted, will hold a grudge.

    18. Do you seek revenge on enemies?
Yes, but not usually hands-on brutal revenge. Leopold prefers to degrade or embarrass his enemies, lowering their social standing while raising his own.

    19. Do you long to return to your mortal life?
Yes and no. The ease of keeping up with trends would be nice, and much easier, as eternity means more to be aware of. But at the same time, eternity means getting to see it all.

    20. Do you have ambitions in Kindred society?
Establishing his own territory and pocket of wealth would be nice, but aside from that (and using it to keep other Kindred off his back) he doesn’t have any lofty goals for his vampire status. The problem is that he likes to meddle in mortal affairs more than he should, as he’s still fairly young. Also being interested in current trends and events means that he gets close to breaking the Masquerade more often than most other Kindred are comfortable with or accept. He hasn’t quite figured out how to keep mortals from being amazed at how young looking he stays, and honestly enjoys the ego boost. Additionally, wanting to set trends and not just follow them means he has to devise a way to do it from behind the scenes, which is another reason to try to gain power.

    21. If you could achieve anything in the world, what would it be?
To run the fashion world, if not portion of or a whole city, and not from behind closed doors. Leopold respects the Masquerade enough while more powerful vampires are around to enforce it, though if he had it his way, people would know he is immortal and that he will be setting trends and living in the lap of luxury for millennia to come. He still finds mortals entertaining, and looks forward to his numerous decades and centuries of unlife to come toying with and controlling them.

Why does Leopold’s sire resent him?
During his time as a neonate, Leopold spent his time, as most neonates do, following the rules of the Camarilla and being one of his sire’s childer. Towards the end of that time, he figured out that she was manipulating him to be an entertaining and charismatic errand boy, using his charm and posh nature to push her further up the Ivory Tower. He wasn’t pleased with that, as he thought he had been making something for himself, not her. That’s when he started doing things to embarrass her, coming very close to or mildly breaking the Traditions, most notably coming close to breaking the Masquerade. Since she is responsible for his faults and actions, and others knew she was his sire, she was soon pushed back down. The two of them had a falling out when Leopold started voicing his dislike for Camarilla structure, no longer wanting to be a puppet and instead wanting recognition for the things he did, instead of her gaining all the credit. She became angry and cut him off, pushing him into Kindred society on his own, no longer wanting anything to do with him, and hoped that he would screw up enough to get himself killed. She may have been as vain as, if not more than, Leopold in some regards.

Based on your history, Leopold gains the following Trait bonuses:

2 Attribute Dots. I would prefer for these to not raise anything to 4, but you may use one of them for that if you need to.

5 Ability Dots. May not raise any thing to 4.

6 Discipline Dots. May raise a single clan Discipline to 4, no other's beyond 3. Your highest ranked Discipline must be a clan Discipline. You may not take Potence, Necromancy, or Thaumaturgy. You may take any other Discipline provided one of your 2 Allies belongs to a clan that possesses it.

1 Dot in the Herd Background.

You must define the archetypes for your 2 Allies. "I want a Malkavian friend" qualifies as an acceptable answer, as does "Trained Killer" or "Rogue"

You must define your major Contact's area of expertise. Your dot in contacts will allow you to roll 1d10 to fish for information, succeeding on a 7 or higher. These are beat cops, DMV clerks or other people you can bribe or coerce information from. But, You have 1 Major Contact who you can count on for reliable information in a single field whenever you have need of it.

You may begin the game without defining both your allies or your contact, the obvious stipulation being you cannot use them until you define who they are.

I'm going to need some information about your sire. Anything you would like to be true of her.

    Hmmmm.....

How about dark auburn hair, hazel eyes, 5'7", sounds kind of like she has an accent from New York in the 1920s (think Great Gatsby. Not exactly an accent but always sounds really privileged), knows a few other languages (French for sure), likes flowers in a florist kind of way (arrangements and meanings) though she wasn't a florist. Just kinda fell into a love of flowers cuz they are pretty and can have meanings and likes the colors and stuff. Into fashion a bit (as every Toreador pretty much is, it seems, enough to always have a nice wardrobe). I assume a few hundred years old.
For a name, how about Elizabeth but more frequently goes by Eliza.

Other than that, go nuts. Just let me know anything else Leopold would know from when he was with her before.

You're going to have to pick a different name. There's already 2 Elizabeths in this story.

Haha, oops! Thankfully I had a few backups. I'll go with Yvette instead. Smile Maybe Elizabeth is her middle name or something.
